Kristi's Report
19th October 2024
What a day Wednesday 24th July was! It started with getting woken up in the early hours of the morning with the fire alarm going off at the premier inn me and my Dad were staying at so had to evacuate the building and wait outside at the fire assembly point until the fire engine came which took 20 minutes! After it came and the fireman had checked it was safe to go back in, we went back in and back to bed until my alarm went off at 7.00 am where i woke up and got washed and dressed, knocked for Dad around 8am and went down for breakfast.
After breakfast we came back to the room and got ready to go out for our big adventure- climbing Scarfell Pike! Left the priemier inn at 9.30am and travelled up to Wasdale car Park, the location where Scarfell Pike is and started climbing Scarfell Pike around 10.30am.
We got up to the top in 2 hours and a half hours. We saw beautiful views along the way, crossed over water and walked along some rocky paths.
Unfortunately when we got to the summit, the clouds were low so couldn’t see the view from the top. It was hard and tough climbing up but going down was another story and challenge altogether. The weather had changed and it was now raining making the rocks slippery. I found it scary coming down even when I had my Dad’s hand for support There was so many times I wanted to give up but I knew I couldn’t and had to keep going otherwise I would be stuck on a mountain. I slipped and fell loads of times and my legs were just feeling tired and weak as well. 40 minutes until we reached the bottom, four mountain rescue guys were coming up to rescue someone else who was more seriously hurt. They checked we were ok and then watched us as we set off again. I then slipped again so they came and helped and they decided to help me and my Dad down to the bottom. They radioed to check with the rest of the team that it ok and when they got the ok. Three of the guys helped me and my Dad down the rest of Scarfell pike. I had two of the guys supporting me under my arms and the other one was behind me. They were lovely and friendly and handsome. They lend me a hardness, a warm green hat, a blue fleece to wear. They share their snacks and a drinks with us. I had a boost chocolate bar and an orange energy drink. We made it safely to the bottom with their help. Thanks very much for your help and support Wesdale Mountain Rescue, you are all heroes! Didn’t get to bed until midnight but slept well. What an achievement for me to climb Scarfell Pike. It was hard work in places but I’m glad and happy that I have done it even if my legs don’t thank me and I did it in memory of my Mum who passed away from MND at the beginning of the year.

Well we made it!! Going Itwas hard but doable .helped that the sun came out and it was dry. And we made it to the top in 2.5 hrs. Unfortunately the clouds came down so no views, we were doing the climb in memory of https://jackygreen.muchloved.com
The return trip was a totally different matter with lower cloud and rain making the rocky pathway very slippery. We progressed down very slowly taking 6 hours, the last 40min with the assistance of Wasdale Mountain Rescue who decided that we needed help to get down before night fall
Slept well last night
